 UAE President orders urgent aid to flood victims in Sudan

President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has ordered the provision of AED 25 million of urgent humanitarian aid to those affected and displaced due to torrential rains and floods in Sudan, to help alleviate their suffering and improve their living conditions.


The directives of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed to provide such assistance are an expression of the solidarity of the UAE and its people with the Sudanese people in such dire circumstances.



The relief aid also aims to support Sudan's efforts and capabilities in containing the fallout of the torrential rains that flooded vast areas across the country.This gesture testifies to the deep-rooted relations that the two countries share, and aligns with the UAE’s policy and its humanitarian mission to offer a helping hand to underprivileged communities around the world, through relief and humanitarian programmes and projects, which help alleviate their suffering and drive their development efforts.

UAE humanitarian efforts have become sustainable approach

Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler's Representative in Al Dhafra Region and Chairman o  the Emirates Red Crescent (ERC), highlighted the keenness of the UAE, under the leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, to promote universal humanitarian principles aimed at supporting and helping people and ensuring their happiness and human rights.In his statement on the World Humanitarian Day on 19th August, Sheikh Hamdan said the UAE has consolidated its humanitarian efforts and developmental initiatives worldwide, due to the support of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai.


The UAE’s relevant achievements have enhanced its stature and added to its responsibility to perform its key role in improving quality of life and mitigating risks for vulnerable people, he added.He also highlighted the country’s ongoing initiatives to address the effects of poverty, hunger, diseases, pandemics, malnutrition and climate change, in addition to its efforts to ease the suffering of people in developing countries.

Sheikh Hamdan affirmed that celebrating World Humanitarian Day this year coincides with the recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, adding that the country has exerted significant efforts over the past years to address the pandemic’s repercussions in a number of countries.The way that the UAE addressed the pandemic’s repercussions confirms that it has successful and practical solutions for times of crises and emergencies, due to the proactive plans and strategies established as part of a comprehensive vision," he said.

The current crises, conflicts and natural disasters taking place in various regions have challenged humanitarian and relief organisations, which require hard work and solid cooperation to help those affected in these areas, he added.

The UAE provides emergency food relief to earthquake victims in Afghanistan

Early on Friday morning, the UAE dispatched a plane with 30 tonnes of critical food for the earthquake victims in Afghanistan.This is in response to Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan's directions, President of the UAE, to run an air bridge to deliver aid to earthquake victims in Afghanistan

The Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation for Humanitarian Works and the Emirates Red Crescent Authority were involved in the delivery of the relief, and they coordinated logistics with the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation

This joint effort among Emirati humanitarian institutions is a continuation of the Emirati charitable approach, and it aims to aid the harmed, the poor, and the needy in various friendly and brotherly nations in order to solidify the value of the unrelenting generosity that has distinguished the UAE for the past 50 years.The earthquake caused more than 1,500 fatalities, more than 2,000 injuries, hundreds of destroyed dwellings, and other damages.landslides
